To measure an existing shower pan, follow these steps:
  1. Measure the sides of the shower pan from outer edge to outer edge, not the inside space. Record these measurements.2
  2. Measure the depth of the shower pan by measuring the height of the sides, then measuring down into the drain pan from that point. Hold the tape measure at the side height and drop it down to the bottom of the drain pan. Record this measurement.2
  3. Measure the width of the shower area from stud wall to stud wall. Record this measurement.34
  4. Measure the depth of the shower area from the front of the finished curb to the back stud wall. Record this measurement.34
  5. Measure the distance from one stud wall to the center of the drain. Record this measurement.34
  6. Measure the distance from the perpendicular stud wall to the center of the drain. Record this measurement.34
  7. For the final shower pan measurements, subtract 1/2 inch from the recorded width and depth to allow for a 1/4 inch gap between the stud walls and the shower pan.3
  8. For the drain center measurements, subtract 1/4 inch from the recorded distances to account for the gap.3
