Answer
To fix a bathroom sink stopper, follow these steps:
  1. Remove the stopper by unscrewing the nut underneath the sink that connects the stopper to the drain assembly. Pull out the stopper and inspect it for any debris or damage13.
  2. Clean the stopper and drain by removing any hair, soap scum, or other debris that may be clogging the drain. You can use a wire coat hanger or other tool to dislodge any stuck-on gunk3.
  3. If the stopper is damaged, replace it with a new one. Ensure the new stopper fits properly in the drain opening and that the pivot rod connects securely to the stopper1

    .
  4. Reassemble the drain assembly by reattaching the pivot rod to the stopper and tightening the nut underneath the sink. Make sure the stopper moves up and down freely1
    2
    .
  5. Apply plumber's putty around the drain flange to create a watertight seal between the sink and the drain. Tighten the nut underneath the sink to secure the drain flange in place

    .
  6. Test the stopper by filling the sink with water and letting it drain. The stopper should seal the drain when closed and allow water to flow freely when open3.
If the stopper still doesn't work properly after following these steps, you may need to replace the entire pop-up drain assembly. Consult a plumber if you're unsure about any part of the repair process.
